Before monitoring begins, charge the logger, connect the external probe, start recording, and place the probe where the temperature needs to be monitored. Keeping the logger nearby lets you check its LEDs without opening the package or monitored space.
Charge the Logger
Charge the logger before use, even if it is new. Starting with a charged battery helps maximize recording duration.
- Remove the USB-C cover at the bottom of the logger.
- Plug the USB-C end of the charger cable into the logger's USB-C socket and supply power. We recommend you only use a high-quality charger from a reputable manufacturer.
- The logger indicates it is charging by turning on its red Alert LED.
- When fully charged, the green OK LED will permanently turn on.
Charging note: The logger will not charge when plugged into a PC's USB-C port. Use a compatible USB power supply instead.

Connect the External Probe and Start the Logger
Connect the external probe securely before starting the logger. The external probe measures temperature, so the logger does not need to be placed inside the monitored package, fridge, freezer, or storage space. Keep the logger close enough for the probe cable to remain connected, and place the probe where the temperature needs to be monitored. This allows the logger to be checked without opening the package or monitored space.
Popular probes compatible with LT5GEO External Probe loggers can be found in the Accessories section.
For a full list of compatible probes, see our External Probe Brochure.
Press and hold the Start/Check button for 4 seconds. The green LED will turn on, indicating the charge level is OK. If the red LED turns on, charge the unit before continuing with the start procedure. Release the button when both LEDs flash in an alternating pattern. The logger will:
- Connect to LogTag® Online and request any updates to its configuration data
- Start recording environmental and positioning data and transmit this to LogTag® Online
Place the probe in the monitored area and secure the logger nearby. For transport use, the included adhesive strip can be used to secure the logger to the package or another solid surface.

During Recording
Once started, the LT5GEO External Probe logger records temperature from the connected probe, plus light, shock, and location data.
If your logger is using external power, it will upload environmental data to LogTag® Online every 10 minutes.
If it is using the logger's internal battery, it will upload data every hour. When an alarm is triggered, the logger will attempt to upload data immediately.
To view your data in LogTag® Online, the logger should be added to a Location for fridge/freezer monitoring or to a Shipment for transport monitoring. This makes the recorded data much easier to find. Use the fridge/freezer setup steps or the shipment setup steps before monitoring begins.
While recording, the LEDs provide basic status information. See Check the Logger's LEDs for what the OK and Alert LEDs mean.

Review Shipment Data in LogTag® Online
To review your shipment data, log in to LogTag® Online and open the "Shipments" page. Open the shipment the logger was added to. Select the Chart tab to see the data plotted in a chart, or Report tab, to see the individual data points, and where to download a PDF report.
When LogTag® Online receives location data from your LT5GEO External Probe logger indicating it is inside the destination zone, the shipment will auto-complete after 14 days. There is no need to recover the logger. It will upload the final data, complete your shipment, and stop logging automatically for you.
If you choose to complete the shipment manually, click Complete Shipment . Completing the shipment stops data collection for that shipment; it does not approve or release the goods. Review the recorded data and follow your organization's quality process.
If you need data that is not yet visible in LogTag® Online, follow the steps in Retrieve Data When You Need It Now.
Once the logger has stopped recording, please return it to a LogTag North America distributor for disposal, or have it refurbished for a fee.

View Fixed-Site Fridge/Freezer Data
Use this section to view data from a logger assigned to a Location in LogTag® Online, such as a fridge, freezer, or other fixed monitoring point.
To view your data as it is uploaded, go to the Locations tab where you will see tiles for all your locations.
Click Inspect for the location you want to review. You will see your daily minimum and maximum recordings in a calendar view. To download a PDF report, click Report tab, then Logger Report, and your PDF report will be generated to review. Click Download PDF to download your PDF report. CSV reports can also be generated in the Chart tab.
Assigning the logger to a Location makes it easy to find the data you need in LogTag® Online. If you do not complete the required fixed-site setup steps, the logger can still record and upload data, but it will not be added to a Location.

Retrieve Data When You Need It Now
If you need recorded data now and cannot see it in LogTag® Online, use the steps below to retrieve the data with the LogTag® ResQ Upload Tool or upload it using the cellular network.
- If the data is needed immediately, open the LogTag® ResQ Upload Tool instructions in your PC's browser and follow the instructions. This requires you to connect the logger to a PC and download a small program that can extract the data from the LT5GEO External Probe logger and upload it to LogTag® Online via your internet connection.
-
To upload via the cellular network, charge the logger until the green OK LED lights up steadily. The green OK LED confirms the logger has enough battery power to transmit data. Remove the charger and press the Start/Check button to upload the data via the cellular network. The data will be available in LogTag® Online shortly after you press the button, provided there is cellular coverage.
